just feels like the main hubs are all corporate shitholes now

and there is precious little to replace them.

i dont wanna scroll big tech sites and be advertised to and have them manipulate me and break my smallbean adhd brain

but like what exists that isnt a festering racist shithole or has no userbase?

this is exactly the issue I'm sort of having right now. I LIKE talking to people on the internet. I remember social media being fun. but were in this weird fucking era where people DONT talk online. they just sit there and consume content. most of it isn't even good content. what I'm seeing is that multiple generations of people don't actually want to talk. they just want the attention. so you get shit like twitch comments or youtube where if you shout loud enough for long enough MAYBE the algorithm rewards you and gives them a viewer. but mostly I think people now days are just watching and commenting hoping their favorite e celeb sees their comment. 4chan to me feels like the last bit of the old internet left. that's the real sad part though. its easier than ever to make a myspace or a facebook or a twitter clone and put it on the internet. but there's no one left to talk to.

yeah man i get you

social media seems to just be bots now. perfect example of this is nu-digg...they already shut it down after a few months due to SEO and bot spam.

but im sick of the algorithm, im sick of the attention economy. im sick of the addictive dopamine doom scrolling.

i agree with you that 4chan seems to be the last bastion but the userbase and the teenage edgy "im racist" vibe gets old quick.

Somethingawful has some gated offshoots that they seldom allow anybody into unless you were grandfathered in through the shitposting exodus, that's probably one of the best bets. I mean those userbases are in their 30s and 40s and grew up online in the 90s and 2000s so it makes sense

289 Name: Anonymous : 2026-04-09 13:47:56

lol ya you got me I only know about it because my old ass coworkers are all about the YOSPOS. what was the exodus?

I'm not sure about the details, I only know some people were dissatisfied with the direction the site was going so they packed up and went

I saw an add for https://mainchan.com/ today. It's cool to see people making alt chans. Honestly I'm not familiar with modern / active alt chans. Are there any good ones?

I think you have a myopic view of IRC and alternative imageboards. There are plenty of cool imageboards that have their own culture and regular users. This also applies to IRC. The thing with "more feds" only applies to imageboards that host edgy or otherwise weird content, but not to all imageboards are like that, some are just comfy.

I think Nostr is worth looking into. It's a protocol that allows for a variety of clients, it's distributed and censorship resistant by design, and it actually has some users. There's some life on that network.

I have a question. What do you think makes social media WORTH visiting / participating in even? For me as soon as there's a sign up its just like fuck this. I used to post on instagram, but now its like fuck it my friends arent there and even the ones that are there won't see it because of all the ads and memes they're subscribed to.

For Nostr, that's where Andrew Anglin is going to post publicly after he shut down the Daily Stormer. I'd like to know what's on his mind from time to time.

I created the archive using an unholy combination of Common Lisp, Perl, and shell scripting:
