I went from ubuntu to mint. But it's probably time to switch again. I'm not gonna lie DHH's Omarchy is looking pretty nice right now.

for most of my teens, i only had a raspberry pi 3 and i used it as a desktop. i did have a windows netbook for school but i wasnt allowed to download and install anything on it. i sometimed used the family computer and played games and used educational software. i used win xp, 7, and 10 extensively.
i got pretty used to using linux but i built a gaming pc and ran windows for a few years. i swiitched to ubuntu in 2021, switched to a laptiop and sold the gaming pc. tried debian for a bit. went back to windows in 2024.
i tried chrome os + built in linux vm for 6 months. it was just too clunky sometimes.
im back on windows now. it just works and im too busy for down time to deal with linux issues. i hate dell.
i had a home lab since 2020, first on a pi 3, then pi 4, then i uograded to an x86 lenovo desktop + dlink nas, and a 24 port switch
im now running a pi 5 8gb, pi 1, and pi 3 as my home server. i hated the heat and power consumption from the e86 homelab machines, and the pis are basically silent and sip power. and make basically bo heat.

Lol dude you lived a crazy life. But you ain't wrong lenovo is pretty friggen great. Do you use your home lab for anything? Just media? Windows 10 with wsl was pretty peak for just having a system that could do everything games and dev included. Chrome books / Chrome OS are pretty fun except you have to be connected to internets to start Linux.

mostly just file storage and plex and home assistant, but i dont have much smart home stuff yet. i also have some network scanning and monitoring tools. ive run a few game servers over the years, but atm i have nothing like that.
i realized i can connect esp32 boards pretty easily to HA so i might set some things up.
i also am starting a website with apache on a pi 3.
al lot of my projects are on hold cuz i just was in college doing some academic upgrading and then a semester of computer programming.
hoping to get some things set up this summer when i have more time.
chromeOS is a really clean, minimalistic, well-designed system. i feel like a linux distro with a UI/UX like chromeOS would take over the linux world.
ive tried deepinDE, XFCE, mate, gnome, KDE and cinnamonDE, and chromeOS UI/UX BTFOs every one of them.

ive tried mint but idk their cinnimon DE makes the whole thing look like a cartoon to me, could never use it for more than a few days.

I've been using Arch for a little over a decade now. I'm unsure if I'll switch to Artix or got the Gentoo/LFS route with knee bending that has happened to systemd. My DE is just cinnamon, I have used DWM in the past, but it wasn't really for me, but I do use ST as my main terminal emulator.

>>310Bending the knee(kneeling before an authority and/or opinion) to comply with recent law changes in the USA that will "require" all computer users to verify their age with the OS they are using. It was sad to see how quickly devs that contribute to FOSS were quick to comply with an invasive law.

fuck me I forgot about that whole thing. its absolutely retarded. we already have it across every site. why would adding it to the os even matter? I literally can't tell if its a global conspiracy or if the world keeps getting a little more retarded each day.
